{"id":13805,"date":"2026-11-01T15:03:32","date_gmt":"2026-11-01T03:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nzchinesedailynews.co.nz\/?p=13805"},"modified":"2026-11-01T15:03:32","modified_gmt":"2026-11-01T03:03:32","slug":"rif-grant-to-support-energy-resilience-in-far-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nzchinesedailynews.co.nz\/?p=13805","title":{"rendered":"RIF grant to support energy resilience in Far North"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A grant of $1.11 million from the Regional Infrastructure Fund will support a M\u0101ori-led initiative to install solar power, battery storage and back-up generators in community facilities in the Far North, Regional Development Minister Shane Jones and M\u0101ori Development Minister Tama Potaka say.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jones says the investment will strengthen local energy resilience and help maintain essential services in some of Northland\u2019s remote communities when power is disrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what energy resilience looks like in practical terms \u2013 trusted local facilities\u00a0 supporting their communities when severe weather cuts power and closes roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTai Tokerau gets more than its fair share of severe weather, and our remote communities need the right equipment that can support them until help arrives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment will harness renewable energy for everyday use while helping keep the lights on, water flowing and communications open when conditions are at their worst.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The funding to deliver the programme will go to T\u016b Mai R\u0101 Energy, an iwi-owned renewable energy company with experience installing solar systems for marae and remote communities.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Potaka says marae are community anchors, particularly in remote areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarae play a critical role for wh\u0101nau and the wider population when hardship or emergencies strike. Equipping them and other community facilities with renewable and back-up power will help them meet everyday energy needs and continue support when normal services are
